Google search results now includes favicons
Last year, Google’s search results on mobile gained a new look. Well it’s finally rolling out to desktop results, presenting site domain names and brand icons prominently, along with a bolded “Ad” label for ads.
Google says that the new format puts a site’s brand front & center, helping searchers better understand where information is coming from, more easily scan results & decide what to explore.
There has been a bit of a backlash on twitter, with quite a few people voicing opposition to the change.
It is now quite important for site owners to ensure that favicons are properly setup, you can indicate a preferred icon you wish to have appear next to Google Search listings as explained in this Google Help Article.
