Web Site Notification Requests To Become Less Annoying

Web site notification requests, yeah we all hate them, now Firefox and Chrome are doing something about it. Firefox release 72 will minimize the notification request pop-up, those who want to enable notifications for a site can click a speech bubble icon that appears in the address bar to turn them on. See Mozilla’s blog post for details.

Chrome release 80 will offer automated and opt-in changes to notifications. Chrome will also automatically apply the quieter notification UI to some users, for example, Google says that Chrome will automatically apply the setting to users who repeatedly deny notification requests. Check out the full Chromium blog post for details.

In the end, these changes will be welcomed by users who never really used this feature, however, website owners who rely on notifications to drive traffic may be upset.
